You know that picture-perfect prom fantasy every senior dreams about? That was me. I had the gorgeous violet dress, the plans with my friends, and a prime appointment at the fancy salon. Everything was set for an epic night. Enter my stepmom, Carla, the queen of petty drama. She somehow found out about my appointment and decided to play the ultimate villain. She called the salon, pretended to be my mom, and canceled my booking. And then, to add maximum insult to injury, she took the slot for herself so she could sit there and watch my world fall apart when I showed up.
I was devastated. I ran home, locked myself in my room, and cried my eyes out. I was so ready to just call the whole night off and wallow in misery. But then, I heard this obnoxious honking outside. I figured it was just traffic, but I looked out my window and almost fainted. A legit, super-shiny black limo was idling right in front of my house. The driver got out and asked for me. My dad was just as confused as I was until he handed me a note.
It was from my little brother, Mason. The eleven-year-old legend had overheard his mom’s evil plan and decided to become my personal hero. Using his mastermind skills, he “borrowed” money from a secret stash she was hiding for a necklace she wanted and went to our neighbor who owns a limo company. He booked the ride for me as a surprise. But wait, it gets better. He also had a makeup artist friend on standby who rang the doorbell right then to come and fix my face and hair. It was the most incredible plot twist ever.
I got ready in record time and looked amazing. The absolute best moment was stepping into that limo just as Carla pulled up. The look of pure, utter shock on her face was better than any prom royalty crown. I had the most incredible night, all thanks to my awesome brother. It just goes to show that family isn’t always about the adults; sometimes, your biggest ally is the little goofball sharing your bathroom.
